2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Boost Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Comes After Lukewarm Reception

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a distinct game identity.

The president noted that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

This announcement echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the complete content from the president's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, he officially joins us on next week.

Ben’s guidance and background in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having spent the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in welcoming him soon. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

The President

"Face the opponents with unique powers, risks, and tests that evolve every session. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and hope your team can earn top ranking? The choice is up to you."

The game has not yet received an official debut schedule or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect more updates as development progresses.
