The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as important members in House Halovar could assist the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Fans can expect discovering which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
